Live your dreams with Dutchie’s Second Life furniture and houses

Decorating your Second Life dream home isn’t just about filling space. It’s about the freedom to express your tastes and interests with every choice. Dutchie® has been making some of the most immersive Second Life furniture since 2008. Dutchie offers incredible ways to get lost in the fantasy so you can live your dreams.

Dutchie’s founder, Froukje Hoorenbeek, specializes in vintage furniture design. Her Second Life furniture catalog includes classic essentials for your bedroom, living room, kitchenbathroom and outdoor spaces.

Froukje founded her virtual furniture and homes store in 2008.  She designs her Second Life furniture from her studio in Utrecht, the lively beating heart of the Netherlands.

A stickler for getting the details just right, she has spent years perfecting some of her designs. This work doesn’t pop out of a production factory; it is born from a woman’s heart.

It’s all about feeling

But Dutchie isn’t just a furniture store. This is not just a catalog of vintage 3D models, but the representation of a creator pouring herself into her work. It’s this heart that you can feel in every textured fabric, in every line of the form and every delightful detail.

At the end of the day, these pieces are all about feeling. It’s not about how it looks, or what it costs, or how many prims it is. Sure, Dutchie’s designs tick all these boxes with ease. Still, what matters most is how they make you feel.

Most ambitious Second Life house

Take, for instance, her villa Utrecht. This villa might be the most ambitious Second Life house ever made. It’s an exquisite example of 19th Century Dutch architecture. She’s built this beautiful house to accommodate some of her most superb work.

Every room is a stunning enclosure. The house is a splendid backdrop for placing treasured pieces that tell a story of practical and straightforward good living. Everything is original. The form, the textures and the animations all add up to a feeling of complete and satisfying  immersion.

Epiphany of Dutch Second Life

Froukje usually bases her vintage designs on Dutch furniture and houses from the early 20th century. Her store is laid out on a polder enclosed by dikes, her dike cottages are the epiphany of Dutch Second Life.

The Dutch 3D designer makes her models with 3D computer graphics software like Autodesk Maya, Mudbox and Marvelous Designer. Baked shadow and occlusion maps are combined with textures from Second Life’s texture creators and worked on by hand in Adobe Photoshop.

Froukje then brings the 3D models and textures together in the virtual world Second Life. Here she adds animations and scripts. The endresults, interactive furniture and houses, are for sale inside Second Life and on the Second Life Marketplace.

Best animations in Second Life

Dutchie’s furniture is famous for offering the very best animations in Second Life. They are mostly made by Second Life’s animators, otherwise Froukje makes them herself with Poser. The furniture runs with AVSitter scripts.

When artwork is used in designs, it usually comes from the Rijksmuseum collection, the Wikimedia Commons collection or own pictures and work.
